L78L00: Low Current Positive Voltage Regulator Series

Description:

The L78L00 series of three-terminal positive voltage regulators feature internal current limiting and thermal shutdown, making them virtually indestructible. With adequate heatsinking, they are capable of delivering up to 100 mA of output current.

They are intended for fixed voltage regulation in a wide range of applications, such as local, on-board regulation to eliminate noise and voltage drop issues associated with long-distance power distribution.

These regulators can also be used with power pass transistors to build high-current regulators. When used as a replacement for a zener diode and resistor combination, the L78L00 provides an output impedance improvement of typically two orders of magnitude, along with lower quiescent current and reduced noise levels.
